Belly Dancing Style Harem Pants
Belly dancing harem pants are similar to what Americans became accustomed to seeing the main character wearing on "I Dream of Jeannie" in the late 1960's. Belly dancing harem pants are characterized by sheer material construction, usually of silk or chiffon. The pants are distinctly billowy, being worn low on the hips and joined together at the lower leg area or the ankle. Belly dance style harem pants often have a slit up the outer portion of either leg area to partially or fully expose the dancers hips.
The entire belly dancing costume is traditionally known as a bedleh - the Arabic word that translates to "suit" in English. Although the actual full costume will vary depending on the style of dance, most bedleh will include some sort of fitted top with fringe beads and coins, a fitted belt around the hips, and a layered or circular skirt. In many instances the skirt is replaced with a pair of belly dancing style harem pants and a veil of very sheer material is worn about the facial area.
Although these pants are really meant for belly dancing and other such visual performances, a particularly adventurous individual might be able to pull these off during other social settings such as a lively party or a night out at a favorite dance club.
